Carmel wedding teaser

So I've been working allll day today editing my last two weddings of the season. I couldn't have ended my year with any other weddings, they both were so amazing and gorgeous in their own way.  While editing Tawnee and John's Carmel wedding, I came across this image I captured. The light was magical...as a photographer you can only dream that every wedding has this sort of light. (please note NONE of this is photoshopped. Besides some basic color correction...this is straight out of the camera)

With that said....here is a sneak peek at Tawnee & John's wedding, and one of my personal favorites from the wedding day...

 

The funny part was we had driven to the coast of Monterey to get some beach portraits. When Orbie & I got out of the car, however, we went crazy with excitement over this magical light....luckily Tawnee and John trusted us and went along with it when we had them climb up this dirt mound (no easy feat for a bride in heels!!). We still ended up getting some coastal portraits also...but this one still is hands down my fav!!

Bay Area Boudoir Portraits...

Some one asked me not too long ago what my favorite part of photographing a wedding was. To be honest, it was something I hadn't asked myself in a long time. In answering it, I realized something that had been in the back of my mind, but had never thought much of. Wedding photography is such an amazing and challenging career. To be able to photograph such a magical day, to be able to capture such unique and fleeting moments, is such an amazing experience. With all of that said, one of my secret favorite parts of a wedding is.....photographing the bride!

It's true...one of the things I look forward to most is the brief fraction of the day where I get to photograph the bride, one on one. The bride, looking stunning with her hair and makeup done, in her gorgeous gown, and radiating excitement and anticipation, is such a beautiful sight. Even still, she can often be nervous and unsure. That where I come in! I love being able to come in and reassure the bride how fabulous she looks (which they always do!!), and tell her about all the beautiful, sassy portraits we're going to take. While taking said sassy portraits, I get to see the bride relax, have fun, and really get into it, and it is such a fun time for everyone!! The bride gets to flaunt her sassiness, and I get to be there to capture it! I've already taken this same mentality to maternity (who says pregnant women can't be sassy?! exhibit A)...

So, you ask....where AM I going with this? Well, in answering that question, it made me realize I could take this favorite part of working a wedding, and turn it into its own fabulous moment! Boudoir!! Eureka! Women deserve to pamper themselves, to feel SEXY! Boudoir gives women a chance to flaunt it, bring out their inner sassy (and the fiances/husbands win too! Can you say best surprise gift EVER?) I think as women, in all the madness of life, we forget how truly sexy we are. Boudoir is a great way to bring out that inner sexiness, and to document it! With that said, I am SUPER excited about being able to offer boudoir portraits here in the bay area, to be able to offer women a chance to take classy, sexy portraits (whether for themselves or their significant other), and I can't wait to share more about this with you over the next couple months!  

Alright...enough chattering from me! Here are some more sassy portraits I've taken recently....

Babies!

I was SO happy to be able to do the maternity portraits for Danielle and Evan! These guys are awesome, fun, and pretty freaking hilarious. Plus, Danielle makes one FANTASTIC Margarita. And since she is also an amazing baker (she also happens to work for Just Cake, who are known for their super fabulous wedding cakes here in the Monterey Bay Area) I'm hoping to be paid with Margarita's and cupcakes...you know you're jealous...

After some time inside, we headed over to the beach for some more (and brought along Evan, the happy daddy to be)

This is one of my favs...these guys are ridiculously photogenic...

One last fun one! 

So if you're wondering...they are waiting to find out the sex of the baby, which I think is so fun. How many big surprises do you get in life anyway?

Engagement Session time!!

So I'm still in the process of compiling all of our pictures from out March adventures (Solvang, Tahoe, Hawaii, San Francisco, and Vegas...all in one month? Madness I tell you...), so sit tight for that. In the meantime though, it's one of my fav parts of the year.....

Engagement session time! Yaaaay! Now, you ask, why do you love engagement sessions so much Rebecca? Let me tell you!

1) They are like mini adventures. Yes, we pick a couple spots to go photograph at, but for the most part, I just love roaming around with a couple, and finding awesome looking spots for portraits. Its like a scavenger hunt! Thats why I love LOVE photographing in new places, or up in San Fran, since it seems around every corner there is a totally rad wall, or a cool stairwell, or some other totally amazing place to take some portraits. Awesome!

2) I get to know my clients + they get to know me = totally rad wedding photos. By getting to know each other during the eng. session, and more importantly, getting comfy with the camera (since, lets be honest, how many of us are really that used to, or prepared, for a camera to follow us around for 8 hours on our wedding day?), by the time the wedding day rolls around, clients are so used to me with a camera, that they are more relaxed and comfortable, than if we hadn't done the eng. sess. That level of comfort leads to totally fun, natural portraits on the wedding day!

3) Yes you want all the wedding portraits, in all your formal attire, and all the details of that special day. But, when its all done, don't you also want some super fun, natural portraits, where you and your partner look like "you". Everyday you! (still sassy and fun of course, but minus the dress and tux)

Anywho, so now that I'm done gushing over how much I love engagement sessions, I bet you want to see some pics, eh?

A short bit ago, I got to do the eng. sess. of Jenny and Adam down in Monterey. These guys are so fun and awesome, and I can't WAIT for their wedding later this year! Here they are!!

These guys are ridiculously cute. I mean seriously...I have no doubt Jenny will look STUNNING as a bride, and that they are both just super nice and friendly just made the day that much more fun. It makes me wonder how I get so lucky to work with such awesome clients all the time. I love my job!

Santa Cruz Bridal Portraits

Last month, I had the opportunity to photograph a bridal session, which is something I don't get to do often. Its big on the east coast, but not so much over here in California. I'm thinking I might have to change that, because they are so much fun! It's so great to have some one on one time with a bride, without the stress or time constraints of the wedding day.

This is one of my favs I think. The red is so aweseome!

My beautiful bride actually had two dresses for her wedding day. She had the white gown for her ceremony, and the beautiful red traditional dress, which she wore to the reception. Halfway through our session together, she jumped into the white one, and we dashed to the beach for more fun...

So i'm officially in love with bridal portraits now!

Juliet is having a baby!

Juliet and Aaron had their wedding photographed last year by Orbie, and to top it off they are great friends. That's why I was so happy when she told me she wanted to do a maternity portrait session! So off we headed to Capitola Beach, to capture some beautiful images....

Aaron stuck around for a few portraits, but then it was just Juliet and I...

The fog rolled in of course, but that's ok! Photographers LOVE fog!

If you know me, you know I'm alllll about bringing out my client's sass...pregnant women are no exception!!! If you want me to take your portrait, you better be prepared to show me some sassiness!
